1. Part-time Relief/Casual position at its three branches in Flesherton, Kimberley and Markdale commencing August 3rd, 2010.

2. Assistant Branch Manager at the Walter Harris Memorial Library in Markdale- This is a temporary position from August 3rd- December 31st with possibility of extension.

Position Description:

1.    Position Title    Library Assistant : Casual/Relief

Summary: Provides patrons service at the three branches of the Grey Highlands Public Library.

Reporting Relationship:    Reports to Branch Head

Hours:   Occasional/relief as required. 

Experience: Minimum post secondary diploma or degree. One year experience in a related field.  Must be willing to take additional library training to be considered for additional responsibilities. 

Skills:·         Good verbal and written communication skills

             ·         Ability to work independently and as a member of a team

             ·         Strong commitment to public service

             ·         Familiar with computerized database management programs

             ·         Familiar with Internet and Email applications; Web page design an asset     

Scope:      Responsible for day to day service to library patrons.

 Working Conditions: Often works in full public view.

                                        May be alone in library during regular open hours.

                                        May have to deal with difficult issues and/or confrontational patrons.  

                                       May have demanding physical requirements (lifting/carrying of boxes of books, moving of shelves, light cleaning such vacuuming sweeping/shoveling of walks.)  

 

Job Summary: (May) open and close library-Empties book drop

-Staffs circulation desk-Assists patrons with research and reference needs

-Fills in for other staff during absences-provides reader advisory service

-Provides assistance to public on computers

-Shelves materials and maintains shelf order

-Assists in maintaining the library as a clean, safe and welcoming environment

-Assists patrons with photocopy and fax machines

-Collects fines and other revenue

-Checks in and shelves materials

 -Maintains shelf order

-Assists staff with other duties as required

-Attends Branch and System Staff Meetings

-Adheres to all board policies and procedures

-Acts in a professional manner at all times

-Must be willing to work evenings and weekends

2.  Job Title-  Assistant Branch Manager (Temporary)

Summary-Responsible for coordinating and managing all aspects of a full service branch of the Grey Highlands Public Library. Responsible for ensuring that all board policies and procedures are followed at the Branch Level.  Develops library programs and services and consultation with the CEO.  Open 32.5 hours per week, with supervision of a staff of 3or more.

Reporting Relationship:    Reports to the CEO of the Grey Highlands Public Library

Hours:  28 hours per week

Education/Experience:   Library Technician Diploma or MLIS degree preferred.  At least two years experience working in a managerial position in the public library environment

Skills:   --    Excellent verbal and written communication skills

--         Ability to work independently and as a member of a team

--         Excellent knowledge about the public library field, including personnel practices, financial management, board practices and policies and program development

--         Good general knowledge of and interest in children’s and adult literature and non-fiction materials

--         Strong commitment to public service

---       Technical expertise related to database management, networking, computer software and hardware, and general equipment "troubleshooting"

--         Ensures implementation of Board policies and procedures at Branch level

 

Administrative Duties--Responsible for financial management of the branch

 --Collects and compiles branch statistics

---Reports regularly to CEO regarding branch activities and issues.

---Supervises provision of program delivery at branch level

---Coordinates activities with other branches

 

Supervision--Ensures that all branch staff are appropriately supervised to ensure the highest level of job performance and public service

---Responsible for scheduling of branch staff and ensures that Branch staff are appropriately deployed to provide efficient, high quality patron service.

 

 Services to Patrons--Opens and closes library-Staffs circulation desk

--Provides reference and reader advisory and information service

--Assists patrons on public computers

--Shelves materials and maintains shelf order

 

Collection--Responsible for the selection and weeding of  branch materials and for maintaining the collection standards of the Grey Highlands Public Library

--Ensures that classification and cataloguing of the branch’s collection conforms with system standard

--Ensures that materials being added to the collection are entered accurately into the database

 

Computer System--Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the branch’s computer system

--Ensures appropriate patrons use of the Branch’s computer hardware and software

--Responsible for the Branch CAP site

 Property-Ensures that the branch and grounds are well maintained, user friendly, and that the branch offers a welcoming environment to all users
