Makerspace Bookings
Your online reservation secures equipment use, not individual instruction. Our space is operated with limited staffing who assist all visitors, so it can get busy. We aim to help as much as possible, but please come ready to explore and learn on your own. For additional preparation, consider looking up tutorials related to our equipment. We value your patience and initiative, especially when staff assistance is divided among patrons.
Makerspace Usage Guidelines at Grey Highlands Public Library:
To ensure a positive and productive environment in our Makerspace, all users must comply with the following guidelines in addition to adhering to our Internet Access policy, Internet Code of Conduct and Acceptable Use and Library Code of Conduct policies.
- Equipment Booking: You can book our Makerspace equipment, online up to 2 hours before you need it.
- Session Limits: Each user is allowed to request one session per day, with a maximum of three sessions per week. Session durations are up to six hours for 3D printing and three hours for all other equipment. We may extend these limits based on availability.
- Reservation Policy: We’ll hold your reservation for 10 minutes past the scheduled start time. After that, it may be released to others who would like to use the space.
- Responsibility: The person who books the session is considered the primary user and is responsible for any damages or misuse of the equipment, irrespective of the number of people in the session.
- Sign-In Requirement: The primary user must sign in on the with library staff at every visit prior to using the equipment.
- Onsite Use Only: All equipment must be used within the Makerspace.
- Data Management: It’s up to you to save any work you want to keep on an external device. Please ensure you delete or remove any personal files from our equipment after use.
- No Food or Drinks: To maintain our equipment in good condition, no food or drinks are allowed in the Makerspace.
- Computer Usage: Priority for Makerspace computers is given to digital media projects; they are not intended for general computing activities such as email, social media, or web browsing.
- Lawful Use: All projects must comply with provincial and federal laws. Equipment cannot be used to create material that is unsafe, harmful, dangerous, obscene, in violation of intellectual property rights, or otherwise inappropriate for the library setting.
