Write @ Your Library is an annual contest that is enabled by the sponsorship of the Ginger Press, and the participation of public libraries across Grey and Bruce counties.
Short stories and poems may be submitted into one of two categories: Junior (grades 7 to 9) and Senior (grades 10 to 12). Cash prizes of up to $100 and honourable mentions are awarded at the discretion of the judges. All winning entries and honourable mentions will be published in the Write for 2022 Anthology produced by the Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library.
The deadline for submissions is October 28, 2022.
Creative Writing Contest Rules and Guidelines:
- All entries must be submitted electronically via email to schamberlain@library.osngupl.ca.
- Submissions must be sent as an editable attachment (not PDF). If you do not receive acknowledgement of your submission within 24 hours, please contact 519-376-6623 ext. 5220.
- The Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library reserves the right to reproduce and publish entries.
- The Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library reserves the right to alter the font, point size and layout for publication in “Write for 2022”. No content changes will be made.
- All entries must include within the body of the email the following information about the entrant: full name, address, phone number, grade level, library name, and library card number.
- All entrants must hold a valid library card for one of the participating libraries. The Owen Sound & North Grey Union Public Library reserves the right to verify library membership.
- All entries must be the author’s own work and previously unpublished. All characters must be the author’s creation. No fan fiction.
- If submitting a front cover design, it must fit on a 5.5” x 8.5” piece of paper. The only words should be “Write for 2022”, which must be included in the design.
- Poems may be a maximum of 50 lines in length. No more than 5 poems may be submitted per author.
- Short stories may be a maximum of 1500 words in length. No more than 2 stories may be submitted per author.
- The decisions of the judges are final. Winners will be notified by phone.
